Must Reactivate Windows Every Startup

By cedar543 ·
I am running Windows XP. Recently we made the bad move of downloading a new version of RealPlayer. The next time we booted up, Windows had to be reactivated by phone. I did this, and uninstalled RealPlayer. But since then, Windows has had to be reactivated AGAIN on bootup. I can't login unless I activate the copy of Windows (which ran just fine pre-RealPlayer fiasco). Can someone tell me what's going on and how I can stop it? I'd be very grateful! Thank you!

please tell us u have a restore point !!!!!!!!!
its a known fact that utilities or basically any software, can bring ur PC to its knees. if u have the restore point, simply roll-back (prior to ur realplayer installation) and there u go. and of course, if all else fails, format and re-install.

I don't know what a restore point is! How do I find it? Perhaps I will email you off list, if that's OK.

Hi

Have you been in contact with RealPlayer about this? I would make that your first port of call. It sounds odd - have you checked the machine for viruses and run diagnostics??

To access System Restore, click on Start-->Programs->Accessories-->System Tools, you should then see System Restore, open you will be asked to select a date,to set restore point before the problem existed, any downloads or changes will be void after that date
Follow the Screen prompts to completion

Well, I've been trying to run a system restore, but it keeps stalling at running Step 1 of 3 and I have to manually restart the computer. It's done that twice. BUT, at least now when I reboot I don't get the request to activate Windows, which I guess is a good thing. I may opt to let sleeping dogs lie, unless that sounds like a bad idea to anyone. Thanks!

did you try uninstalling realplayer
also i would try the restore point from Safe Mode. restart your computer and tap the f8 key during black screen boot. when you get boot menu, pick Start windows in Safe mode. then try to do your system restore.
