Mute sound on startup

I have a laptops that elementary school students use, I want to be able to have the system set to mute on each startup. Running Windows XP SP2. They manage to hit the mute button (on site of computer) while they are using the laptops.

Are you comfortable

editing the Registry? If so, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound
--right-click Beep--click Modify--type in No--close the Registry.

Let us know if you need anything.

And always, before editing the Registry, back it up.
