Mutihubcomputer nt40 see both subnet

By tnguyen1 ·
I had multihubcomputer nt 40 that connect two subnets. Is there any way ( like change registry ) that i can see all computers in both subnet in neighborhood network without using Lmhost or wins

Flan is right, See you have one lan card connecte dto yor subnet # 1 Switch/Hub, having subnet 1 IP (say 1.1.1.1).
Now install one more lan card & connect it to Subnet # 2 Switch/Hub & give it Subnet 2 IP (say 2.2.2.1).

Thats all, you sever then becomes a Multi Homed system.

Regisrty changes are for your OS as in Application Layer, while here we are dealing with physical conntions to LAN.

hmpf... As to my undersanding, we're operating different terms... The computer must be a multihomed one. You HAVE TO have WINS running for correct network operation/browsing if you use tcp/ip. But... I do have the same problem -- computers from one subnet (no DHCP) can't see computers on the other one unless I search for them. Still i can't find any answer on MS's support.

Do computers on both subnets need to see each other? You'll need to make sure you have the proper static routes set up so that packets destined for each subnet goes out the proper interface. Also, you'll need to configure WINS to allow proper browsing under Network Neighborhood. Also, for clients on both subnets to see each other, you'll need to set their default gateway to the appropriate server NIC on their subnet.

Hope this helps...

BTW, if you don't want to use LMHOSTS or WINS, you could always run DNS on the server as well :)
