Running a WIN NT 4.0 service pack 6 with MS Exchange 5.5 server service pack 4. How can I create a public folder in exchange and make the location of the folder on my file server?

Open Outlook on any workstation, go to the Public Folders/All Public Folders. Right click and click "New Folder." This will create a new public folder on that server. The folder owner will automatically be the user that creates the folder. That user can then give other users permissions to that folder as desired. Hope this helps!

I want to keep attachments off the mail server. Want the public folder location to be on our file server, is this possible?

Do you mean that your file server is a separate server that does NOT have Exchange installed? If that's the case, then the answer is no. The public folder database (pub.edb) has to be on an Exchange server. The only way to do this would be to make the file server a second Exchange server in the same site (by purchasing and installing Exchange on that server) and run a public database from there. Hope this helps!
