my computer freez (Windows XP SP2) when dialing to internet

my computer freez when dialing a internet connection with a SonyEricsson K508i serial modem(mobile) please give a solution to this problem.

  don’t use a mobile modem on a desktop system, they use different power levels and will fry the mobile device.
