My Documents Dilemma

By LEGJ1 ·
I have an NT and 2000 newtork. DC is 2000. I do not want Roaming User Profiles and do not need them. However, I do need a solution for easily backing up the MY DOCUMENTS folder on 2000. I also want MY DOCS to be available if the network goes down...so I need to keep a local copy of MY DOCS on the pc. I have changed the path to MY DOCS to a server share\username...but how can I keep a local copy on the PC. What is the easiest method? Good practice? Any ideas? And please keep in mind that I value bandwidth...so I would like to keep users from working directly off the server. Any help appreciated! Thanks! What are my options?

In Explorer, right-click on the folder, and select "make available offline." This will cause a local cached copy of the folder and contents to be kept on the PC. Any time a file is edited, it will sync if the server is on line. If the server is offline, it will sync later.

For full information about this topic, click start button/help and search for "offline."

Good luck.

Thank you for the info. I am looking for more info though. What must be done on the server-side? Client-side? Is Folder redirection the way to go? Can you setup offline folders for everyone on a server share so you dont have to setup on each client?

Again, thanks for the info. I am just looking for a bit more. I may end up just creating RUP's, but I don't want to slow down logons.
