My email program on WinXP is slow

By Blackcurrant ·

I have a problem with my email program. I am using Pegasus Mail V4.11 on a WinXP (SP1) machine with plenty of RAM and GB's of free space. I experience long delays opening and forwarding messages.

I have contacted technical support who say that I need to tweak my NETBIOS settings. Apparently, it has something to do with the interaction between my machine and the server (running Win2k Server with Small Business Server 2k), on which the mail is stored - Pegasus does 'piecemeal' writes and it is this that is causing the slowdown of the program.

I have tried various NETBIOS settings without success. It was recommended that I also search Microsoft's site for a possible solution but can find nothing on piecemeal writes-and-NETBIOS settings.

When using Pegasus on a Win98 machine, the program zooms along without a hitch.

Does anyone have any suggestions that I might try to speed the program up?

they told you to tweak netbios settings but they didn't tell you how? that's weird. sounds like they need to get new version out for xp. did they tell you if this was happening for everybody or only certain folks? i have not heard of the term 'piecemeal writes' and would not use that to search the mskb maybe try 'netbios' 'slow' and narrow down from there.
only thing that occurs to me is try running pegasus mail in win98 compatibility mode...find the pegasus mail executable (or shortcut) and right click on it to get compatibility mode options
