What does it show in Device Manager?

If it comes up as a RAW Drive this is because the user has not used the Safely Remove Option from the OS and dismounted the drive before unplugging it. When this happens the Partition Tables get corrupted so to the OS the drive appears to be blank.

The way to get around this is to Always Use the Safely Remove Option from the OS.

If you Absolutely need to recover the Data on the Drive send it to a Data Recovery House and pay them to recover your Data. If it would only be Nice to have the Data again then you can try to repair the File Structure by using the CHKDSK/r option from the Recovery Console or one of the many Data Recovery Applications that are available.

Here is a short list of the better ones but it is by no means a complete list of all the available software.

While the last 2 are from the same company they are very different products. Win Hex should only be considered for use by someone who knows Hex Inside Out while Davory is a great cheap General Purpose Application.

Personally I prefer the On Track Option but it's anything but cheap. However because I use this type of software a lot it's paid for itself many times over by now, for a cheaper option Spin Rite from Gibson Research or Stella have both very good reputations by other TR members.
