My first tryst with linux..

by mayuresh . Updated 25 years ago

And boy was i impressed…..i knew and heard it was good, but boy does it rock.
Just last sunday, my sys admin invited me over to his place where he and his friends were goin to try and set up a linux server and do everything that would be requiredif u would have to deploy one in a corporate network.
He was using RH6.0, i guess he could’nt arrange for a later version.
Anyway’s he had a full dns, dhcp, apache and samba server running under 1/2 hour..
and in the next 1/2 hour he had finish installing squid and qmail…
and all this with out a gui(no supported card to try out :-()
And not once did the system spit out any error, no rebooting, no crap. Just a brialliant stable server which knows what it’s job is. I have to say it was damm impressive.
Ccn’t wait to try all this out when i get my copy of RH7.1
It makes me wonder why ppl waste their time and money on using MS products. Sure, they are OK in their own right, but are no match whatsoever to any open source projet. I think even MS is thinking the same. Why else would hotmail still be running on FreeBSD and Qmail, and the new highly touted tcp/ip stack is just a freeBSD ripoff.
