If this is a External HDD

This has happened because the Safely Remove Hardware Option on the Task Bar has not been used and the Partition Tables have been damaged/corrupted.

You can use a Data Recovery Program to recover your Data though if it is Important you really should leave int he Hands of the professionals as this is the best way to get your Data Back from a Damaged HDD.

Here is a short list of the better ones but it is by no means a complete list of all the available software.

While the last 2 are from the same company they are very different products. Win Hex should only be considered for use by someone who knows Hex Inside Out while Davory is a great cheap General Purpose Application.

Personally I prefer the On Track Option but it's anything but cheap. However because I use this type of software a lot it's paid for itself many times over by now, for a cheaper option Spin Rite from Gibson Research or Stella have both very good reputations by other TR members.

Or you could try running CHKDSH/r On the Drive but I have no ideal if that will work or if you will loose any Data if it produces any problems.

My harddisk wants to format

by jlouis45 In reply to My harddisk wants to form ...

Hi Gaurav,

Did you install new windows or any operating system into your machine or are you using a harddisk plugged into another machine then the system reading the hard disk will not be able to read the old systems drives until it is of the same format for eg. FAT32 or NT formats. If this is the scenario then you need to find a system with the same kind of File system and try to retrieve the data. Another solution is take it to a technician who is an expert in retrieving data from harddisk which has bad sectors etc. Hope this helps!
