my laptop won't boot from cd at start up.

By stubbsy2010 ·
Can anyone please explain why my Advent 9515 does not let me boot from cd at start up? I have been into the BIOS settings and made sure the cd/dvd drive is set as first priority and it's on IDE 0, but at start up my screen just goes black and displays the message 'operating system not found' I have been told it should say 'press any key to boot from cd' but it does not say this at any point. The copy of windows I have was downloaded from the net. It is vista lite 701mb. I know it works as I have installed it before on a 2nd partition of a computer with windows 7 on a 1st partition and it was fine. So can anyone enlighten me as to why my Advent 9515 doesn't want to boot it from disc please? thanks, Matthew.

I think it is unlikely

that the CD drive is on IDE 0, but i could be wrong.

But otherwise, no one here is going to help you infringe copyright by helping you install copied software. Sorry.

I've heard you can clean bad boot CD's by soaking them over night in a bowl of Pepsi.
(Coke has too much value for such a menial task..) ;-)
