My manager is a baby!

By LauraG ·
Let's start another discussion about working with babies.
I've read the article about how to lead a group of babies, but I know that many of you have had a babie as your manager.
How can you deal with a manager that never listen to anybody but himself?
How can you deal with a manager that doesn't involve their people while determining next year objectives because he thinks he's always right and everybody will follow him?
How can you deal with a manager that doesn't like his people talk withhis boss, eventhough you're working in an open-door-policy enterprise?
How can you ask something to your manager if his answer depends only on his current mood?

Quick Thought

Ideally you can discuss your frustrations with a professional coach who can recommend specific strategies.

Immediately, I would suggest identifying one issue and attempt to discuss it with your manager. Be careful to factor out your feelings and frustrations and simply present an issue and take good notes on his response.

If you feel his response is inappropriate, outline your concers and speak to HR. Look over your employee policy handbook and see if you have a formal open-door policy so you can speak with your boss' boss, or another manager you trust--or certainly HR. Despite your manager's insecurities, he cannot punish you for using appropriate channels to resolve problems.

Be sure to take the "high road" and relate your concerns to busines value. If it just seems like a personality rift between two babies, no one will win.

Good luck!
