My Modem in Win XP

By adamtan81 ·
Hi. I'm a notebook user and have recently installed my XP Porffesional SP1. But I'm currently facing problem connecting to the internet. The modem says it has no dial tone (not dailing the ISP number but I can hear the long 'duu..' sound).

I checked my modem, uninstalled my modem, updated my modem driver... everything seems fine. But still it does not helped to get me into the connection. I check the modem in my 'control panel' and realised that the modem hardware is attached to COM8 ... but how could a modem attached to COM8 in a notebook?! please help?? Solution?

It seems that your modem was working fine be4 updating to XP Pro Sp1. There is no doubt that ur problem is related to modem driver only. Try downloading the latest driver for your modem from the Notbook manufacture's site. even some modem will work with Windows2k driver in XP.
Which OS was installed previously in your nootbook ?
