My mouse and keyboard freeze a minute or two after startup

This problem came out of the blue, for no reason that I am aware of. My computer had been turned off for a couple of days, and when I turned it on today, everything worked fine for a couple of minutes and then my mouse froze. At first I thought it was the batteries, but then I noticed that the keyboard had frozen up as well since I couldn’t bring up the start menu and the Caps Lock and Num Lock lights were not responding. I didn’t think too much of it, and I turned off the computer manually. When I tried to power it up again, the computer started up, but nothing would happen. The monitor would stay black from the moment I started up, and nothing would happen at all. Turned it off again, tried again a few times with the same result. So I waited a good fifteen minutes.. and tried it again.. and this time windows started up like normal. I logged in and thought everything was going to be fine, but then my mouse and keyboard froze up AGAIN. This time however, my computer looked like it was being attacked by a virus when my mouse froze… I saw what could be described as “lines of matrix code” moving up and down in columns, right overtop of my desktop.. it looked like I was being hacked really hard..
With the mouse and keyboard frozen I manually turned off my rig again, and tried to start it again.. and again all I got was a black screen for a few tries. I left it alone for another twenty minutes or so, came back and started it again… and ater giving it another break… it started, but I got a message saying “CMOS checksum bad”, and it gave me two options, I took the one that said “save settings and proceed” or something along those lines. The F2 option. I had no idea what this meant so I hope I didn’t screw anything up.. anyway the computer went on to start up and once again, after a couple minutes, the keyboard and mouse froze.

Anyone have a clue as to what is going on here?

I am using Win XP home edition and a Wireless USB mouse, and wired USB keyboard.
