Hi,
I currently am having some issues setting up my network at home. I have 2 NetgearWPN824 routers and need all my computers connected wirelessly to them, with my DirecTV DVR’s and XBox360 connected directly to them via ethernet cables.
Currently I have the following:
–TWC cable modem on 2nd floor connected to 1 WPN824 and have DHCP enabled on that one with the server starting at 192.168.1.2 and ending at 192.168.1.98. This router has a DirecTV DVR connected to it via ethernet cable, and also typically has 2 desktop computers wirelessly connected to it.
–Then I have the second WPN824 on the first floor (connected to the one on the 2nd floor via Powerline adapters plugged into the LAN outputs) with its IP Address set to 192.168.1.99 under the LAN IP Setup tab and also DHCP unchecked. Thats all I changed in it, I didn’t change anything for the Internet IP under basic settings.
— I did however have UPnP unchecked on that router(1st floor) as I have my xbox360 connected to it and had it set to connect to the IP in the DMZ on that router as before this one was my only one i had and used and the 360 just worked best in DMZ address.
The only other thing connected to that router is a DirecTV DVR that I need to be able to access the network freely so I can share media with it from my laptop that usually connects to the router on the 1st floor.
As of now when I connect wirelessly to the router(1st floor) I can use the internet fine but in the Network and sharing center in vista it says connected but still “Identifying…”
Also I have my PC set on both routers to be reserved to a specific IP but when I connect wirelessly I do not connect to that address like I used to be able to in the past.
Okay, sorry for the long post here just wanted to get as much info as possible. My main thing is being able to figure out why it still says “identifying…” and also why I can’t connect to the reserved address automatically anymore. Also how should I set my 360 to connect to a DMZ exactly. I’m willing to change the configuration if theres a better way but this was just what i saw on netgears site as before I had them connected together and ran the setup utility cd that the routers came with but I had the router on the 1st floor connected into the WAN outlet and it caused problems when I wanted to connect to another computer in the house that was connected to a different router.
