My Network places

Win XP Service pack2 update.
After loading I can no longer veiw Computers in workgroup or shares in My network places. I can however search and find computers and from there map netwaork drives etc. Whats happend?

The SP2 Firewall has limited file sharing. See

I've looked at the link you suggested but that's not the answer. I had every thing correct.

Since you already checked your firewall settings I think you should try this.

Click on start then run and type services.msc
Here is one of the important things that changed from sp1 to sp2
The services network dde, network dde dsdm, alerter, clipbook, smtp, telnet, www publishing, and machine debug manager were set to manual in sp1 but in sp2 they are disabled. Network dde and dsdm depend on some of the others to function properly.

Try enabling these two services and check that their dependencies are enabled as well and see if that fixes your problem. Hope this helps you out.

I like using shortcuts to get to things like services from the run command. Here are a few more devmgmt.msc, ncpa.cpl, appwiz.cpl, eventvwr.msc and one that can be a little fun gpedit.msc. Have fun and enjoy
