My Network Places in XP Pro

By richard ·
I recently upgraded my Win2k Pro system to Win XP Pro. One of the most annoying things to me about this OS is the inflexibility in the way network resources are displayed in My Network Places. Does anyone know if there is a way to display the network resources by machine name they way previous Windows versions displayed rather than by description?

If you pull up the "folders properties" from control panel there is an option to use windows classic folders. This should improve the way it is displayed. As I recall it is not exactly like Win2k, but it is close. However this will effect all folders.

Thanks for the tip but even with classic windows selected the order is still the same showing the resource comments with the machine name in parenthesis.

What I have done to avoid the additional steps is I found the Workgroup my domain is under and created a shortcut on the desktop.

I also prefer the classic view. I'm not sure if you are aware on how to change it to the classic view.

Right click on bottom task bar and go to properties. The go to the Start Menu tab at the top. You will now is the option to switch to classic view.

If I were you I would just switch to classic view like they suggested in the previous suggestions. I have tried to find other utilities to get more indepth management but none of them is worth the trouble. Once you get used to the way the xp does it its not so bad.

Good Luck!
