My new dvd/cd reader writer won't read dvd's

By bradalansimpson ·
I just purchased a new dell computer. The PLDS DVD +-RW 16A6S drive will read CD's, burn CD's and DVD's, but won't read DVD's. It won't even read the ones it's burned? Help

Call Dell

If you just purchased it, it's still under warranty. If you do anything at all without them telling you to do it, you could invalidate your warranty.

Call Dell.

If it's just new call the maker ASAP

They sold it they have to Guarantee that it actually works and fix things when they do not work.

Though if Dell want the computer returned to them for Warranty Repair I would suggest Backing up all your Data & Settings as they are likely to Wipe the Drive and reimage it to rule out a Software Conflict before replacing the drive with a new one. This would involve something other than burning to DVD Obviously unless you have another computer available to check that the Disc actually works correctly.

By chance this isn't a Blue Ray or HD DVD Player is it? If it s that could be your problem here.

But no matter what when you ring Dell they will tell you how to proceed here. :)

I think we've figured out that it's a software problem. I didn't but the P.C. with an operating system on it. They want 70.00 to help me. I'm using Win XP Pro sp1. I can't download sp2. The computer will not start afterwords. Could this be a problem that when xp sp1 came out, DVD players were not the normal included components?
