My New RAM is troubling me...

By flight_lieutenant ·
Hey everyone, I was wandering if anyone could help... I bought some RAM from the internet the other day and now that I placed it into the RAM slot on the mobo most of my programs report a serious error when i try to load them and shut down, and wont start up. I looked at the sticker on the RAM and it says: "256MB 184PIN PC400". First of all I want to check this is the same as 256MB PC3200 DDR and also to see if anyone knows what to do about the programs?

Cheers - Simon

Assuming you left the old ram in does the machine work normally once you pull the new ram out?
DDR/DDR2 comes in two types, ECC and Non-ECC. Your system must support ECC to use it, and the two types may not be mixed even if ECC is supported. Please make sure you know what type you currently have if you are planning on keeping your old memory. Furthermore, many systems can support various speeds of memory, but not all of them will function together, thus if you are planning on keeping your old memory, make sure to get the same type of upgrade.

Yes, PC3200 is same as PC-400
If your mobo is capable of Dual DDR technology, make sure you did not insert the ram in the wrong slot. You need a pair of similar specs ram modules for Dual DDR to work properly.
Download memtest86 to test the ram but remember to test 1 pc at a time. visit http://www.memtest86.com/#download1
Try not to mix old ram modules with new ones in your troubleshooting. good luck.
