the most obvious thing is that

YOU LEAVE DISC'S INT HE DRIVE ALL OF THE TIME AND THE LASERS ARE BEGINNING TO LOOSE THEIR INTENSITY. LED'S HAVE A LIMITED LIFE AND THE MORE THAT THEY ARE USED THE DULLER THEY GET OVER ENOUGH TIME. SO AS THEY LED'S LOOSE INTENSITY THEY ARE NOT AS BRIGHT AND HAVE GREATER DIFFICULTY IN READING THE REFLECTED LIGHT FROM THE DISC'S.

OPTICAL DRIVES USE TWO DIFFERENT WAVELENGTH/COLOR LED'S ONE FOR CD'S AND ONE FOR DVDS SO THE MORE THAT ONE TYPE OF DISC IS LEFT INT HE DRIVE THE LOWER THE INTENSITY OF THAT LED.

IF YOU NEED A DISC IN THE DRIVE A LOT OF THE TIME IT IS BETTER TO USE A SOFTWARE PACKAGE AND RUN A VIRTUAL DRIVE.
