My PC doesn't start

Please help me on this one. My PC doesn't start whenever I press the switch-ON button. I tried to look inside my CPU and I found out that whenever I press the switch-ON button of my CPU, the fans (CPU fan, and other cooling fan) spins and stops immediately. I tried to replace my Power Supply but the same problem still happens.

Disconnect all but the Power Plugs to the M'Board from the PS

And try switching on again. If the fans keep running add one Drive at a time till it is either fully plugged in or the system stops. That will be your problem drive if you have a Known Good PS that works other computers.

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried to disconnect my Hard Disk and my DVD-ROM drive from the Power Supply but the fans still behaves the same way, it spins and stops immediately.

Well if you know that the PS that you replaced works

You need to settle for a shot M'Board or CPU.

What happens with the ATX Power Supplies is that when you push the Button it starts the PS Running for a very short period of time and if there is not a signal received from the M'Board it PS turns off again. This will came about from either a Dead PS, Bad M'Board or CPU. As you have replaced the PS that only leaves the M'Board and CPU here.

If you have a Intel CPU I would be looking at the M'Board and if you have an AMD CPU I would be replacing both the M'Board and CPU as they seem to fail at the same time pretty much while Intel CPU's seem to outlast the M'Boards generally speaking.

I've check my processor and it still looks fine. I haven't found any trace of burned parts. I also inspected my M'Board but I'm not sure how to determine if my M'Board is the problem.

Well I would be looking at the M'Board

ECS units are not overly reliable and you may not see any damage on them. But none the less you need to know what to look for so things like Bulging or Leaking Capacitors and dull solder joints are about all you can visually inspect for other than the much more obvious things like parts Blown Up from extreme Over Voltage Events. The rest will be a result of degraded Components which show absolutely no signs of damage.

Modern M'Boards use a dual Layer construction per layer of the M'Board many times the Solder Joints between the Layers of the M'Board fail rendering the M'Board useless and as you can neither see or do anything about this that's about all there is to say here other than that this is caused by the M'Board being flexed.

But as I have never had much Joy with ECS products I would start off with that as the Prime Suspect and replace it.

Power Surge

lightning storms in your area? Any excessive
power surges could have damaged your
motherboard. Unfortunately, if this is the
case, it's a write off. Is your PC connected
to a surge protector?

No. My PC is not connected to any power surge but I do experienced some power cuts before. How will I know if my motherboard is the problem?

Try reseating the CPU

I would give the inside of the case a blowout with compressed air. When blowing air through the fans make sure that you physically stop them from spinning, as they may generate power and **** something up. Remembering to ground yourself by placing the back of your hand on the Power Supply Unit and not moving your feet. By not taking this precaution it is possible that you could inadvertantly cause damage to the PC from an electrostatic discharge. Then remove the Heatsink, giving it a thorough clean and reseat the CPU applying new CPU grease. If the Fans spin freely when you give them a spin they are probably OK. If there is resistance replace them.
Clean the golden edge of each memory stick with a soft rubber/eraser, remembering not to touch the golden edge of the memory stick. Check with one stick at a time, remembering to disconnect the power from the PC.
Also check Capacitors around the CPU for swelling or bulging.
As the capacitor ages, its capacitance decreases while its equivalent series resistance (ESR) increases. When this happens, the capacitors no longer adequately serve their purpose of filtering the direct current voltages on the motherboard, and system instability results. Some common symptoms are:
* Not turning on all the time; having to hit reset or try turning the computer on again
* Instabilities (hangs, BSODs, kernel panics, etc.), especially when symptoms get progressively more frequent over time
* Vcore or other system voltages fluctuating or going out of range, possibly with an increase in CPU temperature as the core voltage rises
* Memory errors, especially ones that get more frequent with time
* Spontaneous reboots
* In case of onboard video cards, unstable image in some video modes
* Failing to complete the POST, or rebooting before it is completed
* Never starting the POST; fans spin but the system appears dead
Use this as a guide but make sure that you apply new grease to the top of the CPU before putting the Heatsink back on.
