My PC has just stopped working

By fi_cat2000 ·
I was using my PC last night, came downstairs this morning to switch it on and nothing. The monitor light comes on but there is nothing from the tower, no fan, no lights. I have checked the power socket and that's fine. I had a new motherboard fitted about 18 months ago but it can't be that surely, as the monitor light comes on indicating that there is power to it from somewhere. If you have any advice for me please tell me in simple terms because I am not PC literate at all.

Power socket ok .....What about the plug fuse?

It's not unknown for a fuse to die (as opposed to blowing for a specific reason). :)

plug your monitor power lead into your pc and try that, we know thats working so would be a good test.

also theres not a power button on the back of the pc thats turned off is there? :)

if worst comes to worst

your probably looking at a new psu.

dont worry they are fairly cheap I think around $20 - $30 although sometimes it is cheaper to buy a case which already has a psu in it. Weird that, never quite worked out how its cheaper that way!
