By spm9928 ·
My Pc will not boot although when turned on the power indicator lights up. My kids were using it and they said they say a blue screen before it shutdown. The monitor says it, the monitor that is, is working correctly and to check the cables and power, which i did. I created a boot disk by downloading from the net, but I don't know if it'll work. Also the indicator lights do not as it used to will the cpu was starting up.Please, please, please....help!!!

Well, if you don't get video or normal startup screens, the boot disk won't help.

There are a number of hardware failures that could be the problem.

Even a BIOS virus is a possibility.

How much do you know about computer hardware?

The easiest way to troubleshoot a dead PC is to swap in known good parts until you find the dead part.

With a blue screen shutdown and then no boot, the likely suspects are:
Power Supply
Video card
CPU
RAM

I start be removing ALL plug in cards and drives, except the video card.
If the system still does not boot, I may swap in a video card, and reset the CMOS.

try removing and again plugging all cables on your pc, maybe the kids just pulled some cables loose.
if this doesnt help, restart your pc and try to identify the beep codes you'll hear when it loads the bios. it will help us figure out whats wrong with your computer

I had the same thing a year ago. There were 2 problems. The video card adaptor plug which the monitor plugged into had a voltage fault and ocne we changed the card the problem went away. But also after a power surge my hard disk lost its master boot record and the pc (which was set to boot from the HDD first instead of the usual CDROM) couldn't start. Changed the HDD and it works.
