II would upgrade windows from www.microsoft.com. Make sure your pc is not affected with any virus. Or you reinstall OS and install anti virus software. after doing it update it and then it should work.

Have you checked the hard drive with a diagnostic program.
You can get one from the hard drive manufactorer for download (free)
Or you can buy one like Check-It Pro.
Check-It Pro will check all hardware on the PC/Laptop. It boots from a dos boot disk.

You can also check to see if your PC/Laptop make has one on the web site, some do.

The ones I have checked with your type of problem is that the hard drive has bad sectors and the hard drive is about to die.

To get your data off it remove the hard drive form the unit and connect it in a different PC as slave drive.
I am on a support staff and support over 300 PC/Laptops

Good Luck

Comment from glyall@iowatelecom.net on 10/29/04:
check the capacitors next to the CPU.
If the capacitors are flat on top they are good.
If they are raised they are bad.
Having just one bad capacitor will cause this problem.
You will have to replace the motherboard

Good Luck
