My PC wont start.

I have a hp pavilion running windows xp sp2.
When i turned it on today, it went through the memory check as usual, but after that nothing more happens.
all I can see is a white flashing: ” _ ” up in the right corner. i have restarted several times. but nothing works.

And i dont know to start in DoS with HP’s poor BIOS.

+ i do not have a boot disk.

And see if pressing F1 lets you into the BIOS

Wait 5 minutes or so when cursor begins flashing and see if an error message appears.

Based on limited info, first suspicion is hard drive failure.

It is most likely the hard drive. It could also be problems in the FAT. It could even be a virus.
If it is the drive itself you might get lucky and get it to boot if you rap on the side of the tower when to the point where it stops.

Do you have a golf club? Just kidding. Try to do a system restore. This is one of the good? features of XP. Put the WIN XP disk in and do a repair current installation through the menus.
