Crystal report 8.5 - if the DLL is not there, it will install first time if you choose frame view and every time otherwise. So you can tick it off.

If you don't want to install them in each PC (and prsumably can't migrate to a simple intranet), then you should go for a terminal server (service on NT, 2000 professional ..). So I suggest you change the server to something that supports terminal services and install terminal services. While there could be a high license cost with this (server -numbner of users and CAL or client access licnes). But I think that for 900 PPs, this would still be very effective compared to your application team runiing around and installing, reinstalling and re-installing whenever anyone upgrades the PC. You know - the works.

Second solution, is to create a real good and integrated download package, host it on your XP using IIS and train users to upgrade their systems.

Our company is currently implementing and Oracle database along with custom sql integration. Most of our custom reporting is being accomplished through the use of Crystal Reports. We also have the issue of installing the Oracle Home, SQL Enterprise Manager, and Crystal Reports client software.

Due to licensing constraints, I found that the easiest solution was the implementation of a company Intranet site. This allows for a thin-client, with only a browser required. Also with the new .Net technology, Crystal can be easily integrated to dynamically update the reports as the page is loaded.

Hope this helps.

The simplest and the most flexible is to use one or several computers (for reserve if a computer is not available or trafic concerns or security matters) Widows regisres and create a special directory listing locations of all software and components on network. At more advanced version you can include redirections to other registers and implement alerts notifying users about changes in registers and instalation etc. The job can be completely automated including automatic changes at the case of uninstalation and/or instalations.
