My Project

Next year I am thinking of a huge project for myself.
I would like to build my own desktop computer and my own NAS. The tricky part is that I do not want to build it in a case. My idea is to have a desk with glass/hard plastic cover and that you can see the parts underneath while working.
The NAS server i want ofcourse to run seperatly, but would be nice to connect straight to the main computer for fast editing and not be dependable on network for that.

I am a photographer and I need a decent system for my editing. But nothing over the top, my budget is more on the limited side. I do not do any type of gaming, but I might concider some light video editing in the future.
My question to you is, what are recommendations for parts? Is it possible to do this? I have no experience in this field with limited knowledge.
Other questions:
Can a NAS have USB slots for portable harddrives?
How would this system be cooled?
How about the start button? Can you get these seperatly?
Is it easy to install LED lights around the parts?

I currently have a 8y old laptop with a new SSD drive and windows 10, I would like to reuse the SSD in the new computer system and continue using the W10 on it (ofcourse I can reinstall). The laptop will be trashed afterwards since it is already slowly diing.

Give me your thoughts! :)
