My USB and Network Adapter

By b_p2001 ·
Do not work since I installed Windows 2000 on my Compaq Presario 5665. How Can I make the 2 USB and 1 Firewire and ny network RJ45 plugin work, so I can use my PC and login to the internet?

If you go the HP's support site to find the drivers for your Presario 5665 from http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers,
you will see that the operating systems supported are Windows 9X and Windows ME.

Unless you find a similar model with the same chipset which supports Windows 2000, you have to stay with the earlier versions.

I have done everything to get my USB and ATM Network Adapter to work including talking to HP. The online drivers do not work and I am pretty sure the chipset drivers HP refers you to are'nt going to cut it either. I also loaded the SP4 from Microsoft. My device list doesn't list universal serial ports. I am guessing this is why the SP4 update did not update the drivers.

yes, you are correct that the drivers did not update for devices that do not appear in your Device Manager hardware list.
we need the exact brands to help you specifically. but when the symptom is: devices are not being detected by windows (as demonstrated by not being in the list) then either the device is faulty or disabled in the bios or perhaps set to an incompatible memory address or or interrrupt.
were you in the box maybe installing a larger hard drive or something? is it possible you've disconnected the cable linking your onboard firewire and usb from the motherboard? or are these interfaces on pc cards? how about the atm network card? what model/brand? does it have jumper settings you can use to change the interrrupt and i/o? take the cards out and reboot the system without them. then put them in one by one and if windows doesn't detect them search for a resource conflict or try the card in another computer to see if you can prove it's a good card...

Easy for you to tell me to remove factory cards. What will happen if I do? The only thing that has been added to this desktop is it now has 128 MB RAM and instead of a Zip drive it has a Sony CD burner. Other than that it is all original Compaq as is when purchased.
When I start my computer it detects an ATM Network Adapter and it detects an IEEE 1394 Controller. I am just not able to make my PC see the RJ45 or the USB/Firewire/Ieee1394
