My Win2K laptop won’t hibernate

by cjmpe . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

I have a laptop with Win2K Pro, SP2 installed on it (Dell Latitude C600, specifically) and it refuses to hibernate. I get a message along the lines of:

The device driver for the ‘Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard’ device ispreventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver.

Needless to say, there is no updated driver available, since any update would have been provided in the SP.

The unit hibernated when I first got it, but some time along the way, it stopped. I think my problem may have been caused by a piece of software I installed (but I don’t know which one). Has anyone out there seen this problem andsuccessfully fixed it? I don’t really want to reinstall Win2K, but Dell tech support seems to think that this might be the only alternative to me.
