My wireless won't work

By miss.j.king ·
I've just recieved a wireless router, I've got it running and it's definitely working. I've got the adapter plugged into my other computer and that works too. After about 2 hours of faffing about I managed to find my router when it scanned. However It's not connecting properly. I can click on my connection but it doesn't work. I've tried going online to 192.168.0.1 but my computer doesn't recognise it (or 1.1, 1.0, 2.1 etc) My router is definitely working, all the lights are flashing and the connection is strong. When I scan for connections on my other computer it finds our one and says the signal strength is about 50%...but it just wont connect.

Does this make any sense and what else can I do?

Have you read the instructions

by risques In reply to My wireless won't work

Your router will have an address mentioned.

You have to set it up as a wired system first, it probably came with connection cable.

Then setup wireless security, Then note down the wireless settings. (It will save you in the future when you want to change something).

Then update your wireless laptop with those settings then you are off. This will work about 75% of the time. After that it is a case of trial and error with repair connection/disable/enable and a reboot, to get things working.

Cable modem

by solshakdwn In reply to Have you read the instruc ...

risques suggestion will work but also note that your cables from cable modem to router to computer are connected correctly. Then make sure to restart your cable modem after plugging in your router and turning it on so that it can re-set the changes.
Afterwards follow risques suggestion.

If you can give the name and model of your router then we will be able to guide you more on your issue so that you get it working 100%.
