I am running Windows XP home edition on my laptop. I have a factory-partioned hard drive, C & D. There is a CD/DVD drive named F and a memory stick named E. I have had the computer for over a year; Sony Viao #VGNA130B. Have had no problems with this computer until a few weeks ago. Here’s the problem:
I had been using Dreamweaver 8 by Macromedia. It is an educational version that was sold to me in error, but that is another long story. I was not having any problems until about 3 weeks into using the program. I noticed that in the files panel in DW8, it was showing two D drives. The extra D drive is an exact duplicate of the other. When I save a file to one D drive, it shows up in the other. The icon next to both D drives is a drive icon. This began when one day I opened DW8 and the program told me it could not find my root directory (for the DW8 site, I assumed). The program is working just fine, it is just showing the extra D drive, which annoys me.
When opening files through DW8 the file directory shows the extra D drive as a folder, but still has the same contents as the D drive with the drive icon.
Checking other programs, I am now seeing it in other Adobe/Macromedia programs as well.
I have been working with Macromedia support on this and they had me doing many things but nothing corrects it. I have uninstalled DW8, cleared the registry of any Macromedia files, re-installed DW8 and opened in safe mode. All these things have not corrected the problem.
I am unsure if this is a DW8 problem that propagated to other programs, or if it is a Windows XP problem. None of my Microsoft programs are showing two D drives when opening/looking at files through the individual programs.
I have screen shots of what I am talking about at these links:

Does anyone know what has happened, or knows how to fix it? I had one person in the DW8 forum tell me to just ignore it if it’s not hurting anything. I don’t want to ignore this problem, I want to fix it.
I am not very computer savvy, so technical responses won’t help me. Step by step directions I can follow.
Any help would be so greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
