Mysterious new unknown device

by brightmal . Updated 17 years, 6 months ago

My pc shut itself down this afternoon while my son was playing UT2004. When I got home and tried to start it up again, it got part way through starting up Windows (XP Pro, btw), when it started shutting itself down again. I booted into the bios and set everything I could to auto, and now it runs fine, but there’s now an unknown device in the device manager. The only data I could find in it’s properties was this:

ACPI\AWY0001\2&DABA3FF&0

FWIW, I tried running Unknown Device Identifier 6.01, which also showed an unknown device, and the following data, for what good it is:

Vendor: Microsoft
PnpID: usb\unknown

Now, 2 days ago, I hooked up a 7-port USB hub that I bought on ebay, and Windows wouldn’t recognise it, but its not currently plugged in, so I’m left clueless.
