It is my understanding – and experience – that after a Windows folder is closed, the next time that same folder is opened, it will appear on the user’s screen in exactly the same orientation (size and position) that it had at the time it was last closed. I am not talking about opening a folder with Explorer, but rather through My Computer, X-Drive (networked drive), SAMPLE folder.
For example, user A opens “SAMPLE” folder, sizes it to take up approximately one-fourth of her screen, and locates it in the upper right corner of her screen. User B opens the same folder – from a different machine – but sizes and locates it to take up the entire lower half of his screen. Subsequently, whenever user A opens that folder it will open in the upper right quarter of her screen, and when user B opens the folder, it will appear in the lower half of his screen – assuming the neither user changes the folder orientation. User A’s manipulation and user B’s manipulation will not affectthe other’s location preference.
Is my “understanding” true or false?
If it is true, as I’ve always surmised, why is it that from time to time the “last size and location” rule seems violated?
One of my users is concerned that someone else is accessing her computer, changing the folder orientation (as a result of something else more sinister), and then closing that folder in a different orientation – maximized, for example. This has happened to her on several occasions.
The conditions are as follows: PIII clients using Windows 95(b); NT 4.0 servers (sp6); Browsing options = “Browse folders using a separate window for each folder”; the “concerned” user has a BIOS password defined that (supposedly) no one knows except her (and me); the “concerned” user DOES NOT have file and printer sharing enabled.
Is this a mystery, a misunderstanding, or do we really have a misfit?
