Which is the most secure way to connect to our stand alone server? We will be using pcAnywhere 9.2 through a NAT?d router. The stand alone server will be configured as the host. (For arguments sake we?ll call it the ?Host Server.?) The NAT?d router is managed by our ISP. The router now has one ?public? IP address pointing to our Host Server, which is set up as our FTP server for now. The Host Server, with a single NIC installed, uses one static IP address. We are undecided about using FTPor pcAnywhere or both. Assuming we want to use both should we;
OPTION 1. Bind another static IP Address to the single NIC card in the Host Server and have a different ?public? IP address point to it?
OPTION 2. Have a different ?public? IPaddress point to the same static IP address of NIC?
QUESTION 1. Are port assignments for pcAnywhere done inside the router?
QUESTION 2. If not mandatory to do inside router should they be?
QUESTION 3. What am I leaving out?
