NAV dialog box: Persistent

Wasn't sure if I should post this with the OS forum or the Software. Please bear with me.

I have a situation where Norton Internet Security is throwing a message window with the contents "Rules utomatically created for the program: Microsoft Printer Spooler Service"

When this message displays, and I click "OK" to dismiss it, it returns anywhere from 12 to 35 times. That is, I must address/dismiss the message that many times before it stops popping up.

I have discussed this with the vendors of both printers connected to the laptop to no avail.

I have been unable to get connectec to Symantec to pose the question. Has anyone experienced this or a similar situation and have a solution?

wow,, that new for me...
lets do a work arround, go to: start--run-- type services.msc

select the messenger service and disable it. this to stop the pop up messages.

i hope it work for you.

you posted correctly, imho. it is new to me also. does this happen with a fresh profile. (perhaps create a new test user belonging to the local adminstrator's group and try with that.) what version of NIS? Have you run LiveUpdate sucessfully and repeatedly? anything in the event logs. are you are xp sp2 with latest critical updates applied to both XP and Norton Internet Security? Sounds like a rights issue on the registry, maybe. or a corrupted firewall db. just guessing...

Yes to all the above. I finally got a response from Symantec who told me to disable notifications in the personal firewall. That hose the box completely. I'll let you know if I get a viable solution.

I assume these are networked printers. Check out the NAV manual pages 64-70. You may need to specify the printers IP address (if they have one) in the NAV settings just as you might have to specify a computers address.

Nope. Not network printers. This is my personal laptop connected to a single printer.
