NAVMSE Install Problem

By mikeheitz ·
Trying to Install Norton Antivirus for Microsoft Exchange. We get the message "Error: The created profile does not have the exchange admin rights. (Error 2)" Then another message that says "Severe: Unable to create profile; it may be in use". We have tried everything we can find on Symantec's site, and Microsoft has tried to help us through this, but we have not been successful. Before anyone answers, don't point us to any Docs on Symantec's site... we've got them all, and the only thing we havent' done is delete our priv.edb... OH, and we ain't gonna! So, HELP!!!

NAVMSE Install Problem

The Exchange admin rights may refer to service account create to run Exchange services. Or the service account created to run Norton needs special rights such as admin, run as services, logon locally, etc...
and an account in exchange.
According to your message, the error is

You created a user profile for norton, but this user did not have admin rights to Exchange.
Now you try to run it again and the user you try to create, already exists and may be in use.

One more for you, if it is possible, create this user on your domain first, then instead of creating a user, you might have the option of using an existing user.

I hope you get some good answers on this one, because I know how it feels.

Good Luck!

It definately sound like a service account problem. Check your users and groups for some kind of account that NAV may have created. Try adding the exchange admin rights to the account or delete it and try the install again.
Good luck.

NAVMSE Install Problem

I've run into a similar problem when I didn't create a service account before I even began the install. What I had to do was clean out the garbaged user and service accounts (and their profiles) and start the process over.

I usually try to create a separate service account for each service so if I have to change a password, all sorts of unrelated programs don't stop working.

In this case, I would try creating a NavExch service account and then would add it to the Exchange Administrator'sgroup. It will also need some user rights, certainly the right to log on as a service, but perhaps some others as well. Initially, I will usually err on the side of giving to many rights - I can straigthen out the security when I get it working.
Hope this helps!

Been through everything listed. As I said in the question, anything that is documented isn't going to help. Been there, done that. I was hoping to find someone who had the same problem and was able to get it to work. Thanks anyways... back to waiting on hold.
