NDS for NT or Novell Synchronicity for N

By krogelr ·
We are currently using NDS for NT and have a single NT Domain. Becuase we have primarily UNIX and Novell servers we thought this a best method to synchronize ID's and passwords.

While I am not completely pleased with NDS for NT I was curious if anyone else has had a chance to use both it and Synchronicity for NT and what there opnions were. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

NDS for NT or Novell Synchronicity for N

NDS is great for directing services to the users, problem is, where should the passwords stay and come from... As a small computer group we use several systems and operating systems, just to try everything out. I can't wait till Unix / Linux has NDSintergrated but leave it up to the Mars-Nwe team it will come... :)
I would prefer to set the Novell server as Main password server, then Unix is good for providing certain services to the Novell server, There should be enough tools to get automated user sync for the /etc/passwd.
And NT ? well it gets it's users from novell as well.

You did not say what the NT domain is for. If Unix and Novell are your primariy NOS's, Why not use ZENworks to control your NT workstaions and one of the flavors of NDS for UNIX (AIX or SCO) or NDS for Solaris. NDS for NT is mainly for synchronizingNT servers to work with NDS, while NDS for Unix performs that function for Unix.

In using the newest generation of NDS for NT, NDS Corporate Edition, we have seen great success and ease of use between NT and Netware. We tried Synchronicity for months and were not as pleased with the product. The LDAP features in Corp.Edition enable us to use NDS as the Security Directory. Synchronization is seemless and very quick.
