Need a database to keep track of laptops that get lent out

I work at a school and I need a type of software that keeps track of the students that borrow the laptops needs to be simple for the teachers and staff members to use. preferably it would work on a bar code system, the laptop would be scanned then you would enter the students name it logs the date and time and when its returned all you got to do is scan the bar code and it logs as returned

any suggestions for what I could use?

I don’t have a specific application/software program name, but you could look for one that works for libraries to keep track of their books, tapes, etc. that are lent out. Good luck.

Preferably, such software should have a link with the school database, so you can scan de students id in stead of typing their name. And, of course, it should have functionality to send messages to students who don’t return their laptop at the specified moment, and maybe calculate and register extra costs in such a case.
