Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve been here.
Recently, my motherboard died. I’m in college, and I run my computer 24/7. I wake up, move the mouse, and wake it up every morning. One morning, though, it didn’t wake up. I looked at it, and to my dismay, the CPU’s fan was spinning WAY too slowly. I had a guy check it out, and my board is dead. The processor is a 2100+, and they run pretty hot, so I’m guessing it’s fried too, but I didn’t want to spend the extra money to have him check that, too.
My problem is this. My current dead board is an AOpen AK77-333. I want to upgrade to a good solid, stable board, without paying huge amounts of money for it. I talked to a few friends, and they recommended the Asus A7N8X board.
Should I rather upgrade to another AOpen? Like the AK77-600N? Or something similar? The guy that checked out my computer said that if I got a board with a Via chipset in it, then I wouldn’t have to reinstall Windows. I’d really rather not reinstall Windows, so … should I go with a Via chipset board? Or is this guy incorrect?
