Subject: Need fast DOS driver for 3Com 3C905B-TX and Intel Pro 100B
We are using a DOS boot disk to do a Norton Ghost over the LAN. The speeds we get are terrible – less than 3 Mb/sec, whether we plug into a 10 Mb or 100 Mb switch port (Cisco 5500). Changing full/half duplex, forcing speed to 10/100/auto – nothing seems to make a difference. Norton Ghost dumps fast to disk, but we’re not allowed to have FAT disks on our servers.
Both the 3Com 3C905B-TX and the Intel Pro 100B perform fine in all the newer Windows OSs.
We’re using the drivers provided by Norton, which appear to be the drivers provided by the NIC vendor. The Intel disk has a file “E100B.DOS” dated 6/21/01, size 32,880.
Is there some interaction problem betweenDOS, LAN, and Ghost? Is there any setting or driver I can fiddle with to get some better speed out of this?
Thanks for any tips.
