Need help Active Directory

By mkahugu ·
Is there any major difference as to be a domain tree under a forest or to be a child domain to the forest root.We are migrating to
AD and the central IT wants as to be a child domain, and i was wondering if there is a difference apart from the naming scheme btw a child domain and domain tree

be careful

I'd strenuously suggest spending a couple days reading Mark Minasi's book Mastering Windows 2000 Server (Sybex). It's a thorough education in Active Directory. It's a good read, too.

As an MCSE, I'd suggest that you learn a bit about this before jumping into deployment. AD isn't NT4, there's a lot more planning involved. Good luck.

Huge differences

Much of it will depend on what you currently have and what you really need. If your IT department has some folks with expertise in AD, they you should be ok. If not, hang on to your hats.

There are many ways to skin this cat and insure that thecats IS skinned. But that doesn't mean
you (or your IT group) will chose the best way to skin that cat.

Minasi's books are fantastic and if you will have anything to do with W2K as an Admin, I highly recommend reading them starting with Mastering Windows 2000.

Good Luck!
