Need help configuring Speech Recognition

By trini_poohbear ·
I've tested my microphone from the Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices and it works fine. I've also tested it in the Sound Recorder; works excellently there too. Here's my problem: getting it to actually work with Speech Recognition applications, like Yahoo and MSN Messenger and my system itself. I've been getting these fun error messages when I try to open Speech in Control Panel, or try to configure my microphone:

The required task cannot be carried out because the necessary engine could not be created. Please select a different engine and/or a different audio device.

Could not initialize volume meter. Please select a different audio imput device.

The selected profile could not be used. Please select a different profile or create a new one, and/or check your audio devices.

The microphone wizard failed to initialize.

The requested action cannot be carried out because a speech engine is currently in use. Please shut down any speech applications and try again.

Please, PLEASE HELP ME!

Hi

If you are using Windows XP, maybe you are in troubles with the speech recognition or speech recognition engine.

How to install speech recognition by using Add or Remove Programs

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Click Change or Remove Programs, click Microsoft Office XP, and then click Change.
3. Click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
4. Under Features to install, double-click Office Shared Features.
5. Double-click Alternative User Input, click Speech, click the down arrow, and then click Run from My Computer.
6. Click Update. Speech recognition is now available in all Office programs and other programs where it is enabled such as Internet Explorer.
