Go to your PC manufacturers website and download the drivers for your sound card. Install them and you should be able to get the sound working.

nearby who can answer that question. Do you still have the books that came with your computer? If not, you may be out of luck.

Make sure that your sound is not muted.
Click on Start, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio devices, then make sure the volume is up and the Mute box is unchecked.
I recommend checking the box that says “Place volume icon in the task bar”Now click on the volume slider and release. you should hear a noise if that was it.
If not, go back to the system properties box (the one in your screen shot, just double click on “system since you are already in the control panel or right click on the My Computer icon and select properties), select the hardware tab, then device manager, Then look at the Sound, video and game controllers (or it may be a yellow “?” )
If it’s a yellow question mark or if you see several of them, right click on each one and select “uninstall”. Once you do that, you can do a refresh, but it’s better to just go ahead and reboot. Hopefully, it will find the drivers this time and install them.
will get prompts once you reboot. If that doesn’t do it, you will have to find the drivers for the sound card or onboard audio, download and install them. Post back about that

original cd’s
by danlm · about 15 years, 2 months ago
In reply to Hopefully you have a friend…
Do you have the cd’s that came with your computer when you bought it? If so, then you should be able to install the sound drivers from there. There should also be a pdf file on that disk to help you walk it through.
I take it your computer has Internet connections?
If so, you could go through my computer to the hardware profile. And delete the existing driver(if any) for your sound card. When you reboot, it will say found new hardware and prompt you for the device driver…. I really don’t like telling you to go this way though). And that is because I don’t think you feel comfortable about it. ALL THOUGH, ;o). You did upgrade… So, this is just part of the upgrade process.
Again, if you have your original cd’s for the computer. This would be your best route.

This should give you some more info
by statykserver · about 15 years, 2 months ago
In reply to nope
on at least the type of system you are running so you can figure out what driver to look for. This will help if you haven’t added hardware to your system and if it isn’t a clone, otherwise pulling out the hardware and getting the info from there is what you’ll probably be doing if it is a clone.
Anyway here is what you should run to get your system info if you can’t find it on the outside of the box. Dell, compaq, emachine ..??? model ???
