Need help regaring Modem

By Mike (from Canada) ·
I am using a PCI modem. It is labelled "Diamond Multimedia systems SUP2260". I managed to set the modems IRQ to 4. I did that because I am trying to get the modem to work in DOS mode. I loaded Windows, the drivers self installed and when I check theproperty sheet for the modem, It wont let me use it in DOS mode. The check box is faded. Yet the resource page matches the suggested resources. How do I get the modem to work both in Windows and in Dos mode? I am able to set it to IRQ's 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11.

You have to realize that changing the modem's IRQ is going to change its behavior. When you have a modem, you are creating or replacing a COM port. COM ports also use IRQs and unless your modem allows IRQ sharing, you will most likely have to disconnect one of your COM ports. COM1: and COM3: use IRQ 4 and COM2: and COM4: use IRQ 3. You must go into your BIOS configuration and disable COM1: or COM2: depending on what you set your IRQ to be. I wouldn't advise setting it to any other IRQ as DOS will have a problem with it. Also, the desirable COM port is to disconnect COM2:, this will free up IRQ 3 and you will have a working modem that now calls itself COM2:. When you reference the modem, that is the port that you use.

Phew!

Hope this helps!

This modem is commonly known as a Win modem...
It is not a modem at all until the Windoze drivers are there to support it, that's why they are so cheap..
Forget using it in DOS mode...

that cannot be true because there is an enable dos support tab with the check box grayed out.
