Need help understanding DHCP through switch

by cclc . Updated 3 years, 7 months ago

I have a Sonicwall TZ500 Firewall/Router and I am trying to connect and configure a switch through the firewall software.
I am having difficulty understanding how DHCP can be accessed through the switch. I am instructed to give the management port a static ip different from the DHCP range. When a device connects to the switch, it is given an ip in the range of the management port not the firewall.

For example: my DHCP range from the firewall is 192.168.254.xxx and my management port on the switch is 192.168.100.1 When I plugged a laptop into the switch port 24 it assigned 192.168.100.142 I want the switch to use the DHCP from the firewall. I don’t see dhcp enabled on the switch, actually I can’t locate anything regarding dhcp on the switch.

If you don’t understand my description of the issue, please let me try to clear up the explanation.
