Need help with Cd-RW, Drivers, etc.

I recently decided to upgrade from NTI’s CD Maker 6.5 to Media Maker 8. The Uninstall/reinstall process either corrupted drivers or registry pointers, and resulted in Windows XP Pro not recognizing either CD drive. I found what I thought was the solution in a forum, that involved deleting a couple of registry keys, re-booting, and allowing XP to put the correct keys back. That seemed to work, as the Device Manager was error-free. However Media Maker will not burn a CD, and Windows Media player 11 insists I must first “plug in a device” before it can do same. Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Any assistance would be most appreciated!
