I have just installed windows xp on a brand new HD, a WD 500GB. The MB is an asus a8n32 deluxe. I cannot get the HD to be even recognized unless it is plugged into the silicon image raid controller which is a separate SATA port besides the original 4 ports. I have tried changing every BIOS option imaginable, including disabling the silicon image mode. (it was on SATA2 option). So after getting xp to install, it fails everytime just when the xp logo comes to as startup progresses. I still have no luck using the “other” sata ports at all. I have raid functionality turned off. I am totally lost.
