Need info about DOCSIS Cable Internet

By crazy_injun43 ·
Can any one out there tell me how to configure a Ethernet connection so it will bind and logon with a new browser? I know DOCSIS binds to your browser. I can get it to logon with one unit, but not another, maybe my settings are wrong.... both adapters are on the HCL for Win2000Pro HELP>>>>> maybe someone can explain to me how DOCSIS works, I hope......

I don't know what you mean by binding to a browser.

As I understand it, a DOCSIS cable modem "binds" to your NIC MAC address (Network Interface Card, Media Access Control). This is how a cable company prevents someone from just connecting any cable modem to the cable network and getting free access.

The first time the cable modem is connected, there is a setup procedure involving a user ID and password. Entering a valid user ID and password causes the cable company to recover the NIC MAC address and cable modem MAC address. Traffic from that cable modem+NIC will then be allowed by the cable network.

If you want to connect your cable modem to another NIC with a different MAC address, it will not work unless you do the setup procedure again.

Does this help? Let me know how this turns out.
