Need more input, MSN down??

By Rick H ·
We are using w98es & me and are on lan with roadrunner. Today for some reason we can access the internet with no trouble except for msn and some of microsoft's support sites. I ran a virus scan and found nothing. I did recieve an answer pretaining to shorcuts, however this is not a shortcut problem. If I type in "www.msn.com" directly it does not find the site. Also on the microsoft website most of the support sites as well as msnbc.com will not respond.
Any help would be appreciated.
Rick

can you goto a command prompt and ping msn.com...

Do you get the i.p. of 207.68.172.246?

Have you tried typing that i.p. into internet explorer as the address to get to msn?

If that works, you may want to try to download adaware from lavasoftusa.com, run it, clean your system and also goto nai.com and download stinger. Both programs are free and will remove any malicous software from your pc.

I have been having intermittent problems hitting www.msn.com

Other sites are ok, so looks like something is happening at MSN today.

If you call RR the message states that they are aware of the issue and are looking into it. It looks as if either MSN, MSNBC, Hotmail, etc.. are being DOS'ed or they are having a problem with DNS.

Thanks for the quick reponses. I am on adifferent system now but I will try most of your ideas. This problem was throughout our entire office. I found no viruses but did not try adaware, I will in the morning.
I am not familiar with "ping" but I do believe I did get the numbers at the bottom of the screen.(I don't recall just now what they were.)
