Hi

One of my users has lost the password to their administrator account on windows xp on their laptop, therefore essentiall locking them out of it. Is there anyway i can get into it without the password, there are no other accounts on it.

If you are able to get into windows at all, this should do the trick of reseting the admin password:

When I install XP or 2000, I always setup an localadmin account and add it to the administrators group. That way, if this ever happens you can log on as an admin.

I hate to say it, but, I'd go ahead and re-install XP and add the additional admin...

the problem is that the user has extremly important information on this machine, reformatting simply isn't an option. Thanks anyway

Here is the URL you need:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321305

If that doesn't work, just got to http://support.microsoft.com and enter 321305 in the box at the left for searching the Knowledgebase. 321305 is the article number. It will also give you some related articles.
